What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis can be used therapeutically, for example to alleviate anxiety or change behavior. Hypnosis is a state of focused attention that utilizes a relaxed state of consciousness. It is not a sleep-like trance, but rather a state between wakefulness and sleep, in which the subconscious mind is particularly receptive to correction.
What does hypnosis feel like?
During hypnosis, many people experience a feeling of relaxation and lightness. They often feel calm and at the same time very alert. Some describe it as a "floating" sensation or a state of deep relaxation in which thoughts are generally not controlled by the mind, but by feelings, and can therefore slow down.
Difference between hypnosis and trance
Hypnosis is a state that alters conscious experience. Trance, on the other hand, is the state induced by hypnosis. One can also be in a trance without being consciously hypnotized, for example, during meditation or when "immersed" in an activity that requires a high level of concentration.
Can you hear anything when you're hypnotized?
Yes, everything. Even during hypnosis, you perceive sounds, although you are often less distracted or find them less disturbing. The perception of external stimuli may be reduced during hypnosis, but you generally remain receptive to voices, such as that of the hypnotherapist.
Will I sleep during hypnosis? Or what happens if I fall asleep?
You don't sleep in the traditional sense. Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and relaxation. If you fall asleep during hypnosis, you don't lose the connection to the session, but the therapeutic process may be less effective. The subconscious mind becomes less receptive during sleep. Generally, you can be gently nudged back into hypnotic activity, or you can sleep until your body naturally awakens.
Can everyone be hypnotized?
Only those who are willing to participate will be able to hypnotize. It won't work against a person's will. Most people can be put into a hypnotic state, as everyone is hypnotizable to a different degree. However, some people are less receptive to hypnosis due to certain factors (such as very strong resistance or mental blocks).
Do I have to believe in the effectiveness of hypnosis for it to work?
It helps to have a positive attitude (openness) towards hypnosis, but it's not absolutely necessary to benefit from it. Some people who are initially skeptical still experience very positive results and benefit from above-average recovery.
Do you lose control during hypnosis?
No, you remain in control during hypnosis. The person being hypnotized can end the session at any time if they feel uncomfortable. Hypnosis can never be used against a person's will.
Does one do things against one's will under hypnosis?
No! Hypnosis cannot make someone do anything against their will. Rather, the state of hypnosis promotes heightened awareness of certain aspects and allows for deeper reflection, but not actions that go against the ethical values or the will of the individual.
Will I reveal intimate secrets through hypnosis?
Hypnosis does not lead to the disclosure of intimate secrets. Generally, the hypnotized person continues to protect their privacy. However, hypnosis can help identify hidden thoughts and blockages that impair well-being.
Is it possible to be hypnotized against one's will?
No! Hypnosis only works if the person is voluntarily and open to it. It is not possible to hypnotize someone against their will.
Is hypnosis dangerous?
Hypnosis is generally not dangerous when practiced by trained and experienced therapists. Experience has shown no demonstrable long-term risks; however, hypnosis should not be used on people with serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or certain other health conditions (such as taking certain medications).
Is it possible to become trapped in hypnosis?
This is extremely rare. It is usually a natural process for a person to easily return to their normal state of consciousness after a hypnosis session. However, if someone feels they are "losing" in hypnosis, the therapist can end the session at any time .
Do I remember afterwards what happened during the hypnosis?
In virtually all cases, people remember what happened during hypnosis, especially the relevant parts of the session. However, some people don't remember all the details, which can be a normal part of the experience. Digital recordings, of course, can help fill in any memory gaps.
What happens during a hypnosis session, what is the procedure?
A hypnosis session begins with a conversation to define the session's goal. The development of a compelling suggestion is also discussed. This is followed by the induction, in which the therapist guides the client into a deep state of relaxation. Once the client is in a trance, targeted suggestions or therapeutic interventions can be implemented. Finally, the client is gently brought back to a normal waking state.
How long does a hypnosis session last?
A typical hypnosis session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. The exact duration depends on the goal and the individual process.
How do I prepare for my first hypnosis session?
It's helpful to be open and relaxed. Avoid eating heavy meals right before the session and try to allow enough time for relaxation. You should also have a clear idea of what you want to achieve with hypnosis.
Are group sessions also possible if the clients have the same issue?
Group sessions are generally possible if the clients have a similar issue. However, mental-base exclusively offers individual hypnosis sessions to ensure highly targeted and personalized support. This allows the hypnosis to be precisely tailored to the needs and concerns of each individual client.
What can be successfully treated, influenced, and achieved with hypnosis?
Hypnosis can be helpful for a variety of problems, including:Anxieties and phobiasSleep disordersSmoking cessationWeight lossStress managementPain managementImproving self-awareness
Can hypnotherapy also heal physical symptoms?
Hypnosis can help alleviate or influence physical symptoms, especially those that are psychosomatic, such as migraines, chronic pain, or skin conditions. However, it cannot replace medical diagnoses or treatments.
Where is hypnosis used particularly successfully?
Hypnosis has proven particularly effective in the therapy of anxiety, sleep disorders, addictive behavior (e.g. smoking) and in the treatment of stress or chronic pain.
What factors generally argue against hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis should be avoided in people with severe mental disorders such as schizophrenia, psychosis, or dissociative disorders. Caution is also advised in cases of acute mental health crises.
When does hypnotherapy not work?
Hypnosis may not work if the person concerned is not willing to engage in it, or in the case of certain mental illnesses that require deeper psychotherapeutic treatment.
What distinguishes the mental-base hypnosis method from other methods?
The mental-base hypnosis method is a special approach that aims to identify and resolve a client's inner blockages. It combines deep relaxation techniques with solution-oriented suggestions and is particularly focused on individual physical and mental well-being.
How many sessions are required for successful hypnotherapy?
The number of sessions varies depending on the goal and complexity of the issue. Simple problems sometimes require 1 to 3 sessions, while deeper or more complex issues may require more. Generally, many clients experience an improvement after the first session.
Will the health insurance cover the costs?
Health insurance companies generally do not cover the costs of hypnotherapy, as it is not a standard benefit included in basic insurance coverage. You should check with your insurance company beforehand whether supplemental insurance will cover some of the costs, especially if hypnosis is used as a supportive measure in the treatment of a recognized condition (e.g., mental disorders or pain).
How much does a hypnosis session cost?
The cost of a hypnosis session is calculated on an hourly basis. We would be happy to provide you with further information in a personal consultation.
